Shingle roofing services in Charlotte, NC
Whether you are roofing new construction, replacing a roof that has reached the end of its life, or dealing with storm damage, we install professional-grade shingles and complete roofing systems across the Charlotte metro.
A roof is not just shingles. Every job we do includes the components that actually keep water out — drip edge, underlayment and ice-and-water shield, starter course, flashing details, roof penetration boots and ventilation. Skipping any of them is how a roof that looks finished starts leaking in three years.
We measure your roof using satellite imagery before anyone sets foot on your property, so the estimate process does not require a long appointment. Once you have chosen materials, we can put a detailed proposal in front of you in minutes, and you can approve the contract with a verified electronic signature through DocuSign.
Most of our work falls into two categories: full roof replacement when a roof has reached the end of its life, and targeted roof repair when the damage is localized and the rest of the roof is sound.
What we install: Architectural shingles · Designer shingles · 3-tab shingles · Impact-resistant shingles · ENERGY STAR® compliant shingles · Cedar shake roofing · Standing seam metal · Copper roofing · Rubber membrane · Rolled roofing · Roof deck protection · Attic ventilation · Flashing details · Skylight replacement · Sun tunnel installation
What a shingle roof costs in Charlotte
Our 9-step shingle roof installation process
Before your project starts, a good deal happens behind the scenes. Our office builds a plan so the job runs start to finish without surprises, and keeps you informed the whole way. It begins with a roof inspection, and on installation day your dedicated project manager oversees the following.
9-Step roof Installation
1. Material delivery. Materials arrive at a location you and your estimator agreed on in advance, so nothing is dropped where it will be in your way.
2. Crew and dump trailer arrive. Our crew brings a dump trailer for your old roof and all related construction debris. It leaves when we do.
3. Your home and landscaping are protected. We tarp the areas around the house before anything comes off the roof.
4. Tear-off. We remove the old shingles and all associated materials down to the deck.
5. Roof deck inspection. With the roof stripped, we inspect the plywood decking and replace any section that is rotted or compromised. This is the point where hidden damage shows up, and we will show it to you rather than simply adding it to the bill.
6. Roofing system installation. Drip edge, underlayment, ice and water shield, starter shingles, field shingles, ventilation products, flashing details and roof penetration components. The full system, not just the shingles.
7. Cleanup. Extensive cleanup including magnetic rakes across the property to collect nails. This is the step most complaints about other roofers come from, and it is the one we take most seriously.
8. Final inspection. Inspected by SHS, and by county authorities where required.
9. Warranty registration. We register your warranty with every applicable manufacturer. You do not have to chase paperwork to be covered.
If you are comparing us against another quote, it is worth knowing the signs of a bad roof installation — most of them trace back to steps 5, 6 and 7.

GAF Master Elite and CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster
Roofing certifications are easy to put in a footer and hard to actually earn. Here is what ours mean.
GAF Master Elite
GAF is North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, and their 3-Part Protection Program begins with finding a certified contractor. GAF has certified Southern Home Services as a Master Elite Contractor — a designation fewer than 2% of roofing contractors qualify for. Holding it requires that we are trained to install GAF products, that we maintain General Liability and Workers’ Compensation insurance at all times, and that we stay licensed in North and South Carolina.
The practical benefit to you: Master Elite status is what allows us to offer GAF’s Golden Pledge warranty, under which GAF covers our workmanship for 25 years. Most contractors cannot offer it, because most contractors are not eligible.
CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster™ Premier
SSM Premier is CertainTeed’s top-level roofing credential. Earning it requires demonstrating extensive knowledge of shingle installation through rigorous testing, and providing CertainTeed with proof of workers’ compensation and liability insurance. Only an SSM can offer the highest level of SureStart PLUS™ extended warranty coverage, and only when a complete Integrity Roofing System is installed.
HAAG certified
Our residential roofing inspectors hold HAAG certification, the standard used across the insurance industry for damage assessment. If you are filing a storm claim, that matters — it means our inspection is speaking the same language as your adjuster’s.
We have been doing this in Charlotte since 2001, and we are still family owned.

How long a shingle roof lasts in Charlotte’s climate
A shingle roof in Charlotte does not age the way one does in a dry or cold climate. Three things drive it here.
Heat and UV. Long, hot summers cook asphalt shingles from above while attic temperatures push heat from below. Adequate attic ventilation is not a nice-to-have in this region — it is the difference between a roof reaching its rated life and falling well short of it.
Humidity and algae. Those dark streaks on roofs across the Southeast are algae, and Charlotte’s humidity is ideal for it. Modern shingles are manufactured with algae-resistant granules, which is why a ten-year-old roof here often looks worse than a two-year-old one of the same product.
Wind and hail. Charlotte sees severe thunderstorms most summers and the occasional tropical system remnant. Wind ratings and impact resistance are worth paying attention to in a way they would not be in a calmer climate. After a storm, there are five things worth doing immediately.
Realistic expectations: a properly installed and adequately ventilated architectural asphalt roof typically lasts 25 to 30 years in this climate. 3-tab shingles run closer to 15 to 20. Ventilation and installation quality move those numbers more than the shingle brand does.

F.A.Q.
Have a question? Here are some of our most inquired about items, but you may always contact a project consultant or our office for more information.
How much does a new shingle roof cost in Charlotte, NC?
Angi puts the Charlotte average at $8,954, with most homeowners between $5,949 and $12,204, and asphalt shingle roofs specifically running $8,000 to $12,000. Your number depends on roof size and pitch, how cut-up the roof is, how many layers have to come off, the condition of the decking underneath and which shingle tier you choose. Our estimator gives you a real figure in about two minutes without a site visit, and financing is available.
How long does it take to replace a shingle roof?
Most single-family asphalt roofs are completed in a single day, with larger or more complex roofs taking two to three. Weather, roof complexity and decking replacement are the usual reasons a job runs longer.
What's the difference between 3-tab, architectural and designer shingles?
3-tab shingles are flat and economical. Architectural shingles are laminated from multiple layers, which gives them a dimensional appearance and considerably better wind and impact performance. Designer shingles are heavier still and imitate slate or hand-split shake. The gap shows up most clearly in the warranty: through GAF’s System Plus, architectural shingles carry 50 years of material coverage and lifetime labor coverage, while 3-tab carries 20 years on materials and 25 to 30 on labor.
What does GAF Master Elite mean, and why does it matter?
GAF certifies fewer than 2% of roofing contractors as Master Elite. Qualifying requires factory training on GAF products, continuous General Liability and Workers’ Compensation insurance, and active licensing — we hold ours in both North Carolina and South Carolina. The practical consequence is that Master Elite contractors can offer GAF’s Golden Pledge warranty, under which GAF itself backs the workmanship for 25 years. Most contractors cannot offer that warranty because they are not eligible for it.
How long does a shingle roof last in Charlotte's climate?
A properly installed and adequately ventilated architectural asphalt roof generally lasts 25 to 30 years here; 3-tab shingles run closer to 15 to 20. Charlotte’s heat, UV exposure and humidity are harder on asphalt than a milder climate would be, and attic ventilation affects the outcome more than most homeowners expect.
